The early 2000s were a watershed era for metalcore. Bands were experimenting with new sounds and bringing in elements from outside genres, and Long Islands From Autumn to Ashes debut was a standout. Produced by Killswitch Engages Adam Dutkiewicz and released in 2001, the quintet littered their bone-snapping breakdowns with elements of screamo, emo and art-rock including a nine-and-a-half-minute epic that assembled all of those parts into one song.
